
Angelo Schillaci (Rome, 1980) is Associate Professor of Comparative Public Law. He teaches
Comparative Public Law in the Master's Degree Course in Law and Comparative and European
Public Law in the Bachelor's Degree Course in European Studies, at the Faculty of Law -
‘Sapienza’ University of Rome and at Zhongnan University of Economics and Law in Wuhan
(China).
In 2018, he obtained the National Scientific Appointment as Full Professor in Comparative Law.
Previously, he was a fixed-term researcher (cat. B) and research fellow in Comparative Public Law
in the Department of Legal Sciences at ‘Sapienza’ University of Rome and a research fellow in
Constitutional Law at the University of Teramo. From A.A. 2011/2012 to A.A. 2014/2015 he held
teaching positions at the University of L'Aquila.
In 2008, he obtained his PhD in ‘Theory of the State and Comparative Political Institutions’ at
‘Sapienza’ University of Rome and the title of Doctor en Derecho at the Universidad de Granada
(Spain).
He is a member of research projects in Italy and abroad. He is a member of the Editorial Board and
Editorial Committee of GenIUS - Rivista di studi giuridici sull'orientamento sessuale e l'identità di
genere and of the Editorial Committee of the Revista de Derecho constitucional europeo; he is a
contributor and editor of the legal studies portal Articolo29.it. Since 2011, he has collaborated with
the Fundación Peter Häberle, established at the Universidad de Granada (Spain). He also works as
a legal consultant for public bodies and associations.
As an invited professor, he has taught courses and lectured at the Universidad de Granada (Spain),
the Universidade de Lisboa (Portugal), the Pontificia Universidade do Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil),
the Uninove in Sao Paulo (Brazil), the Universidade Positivo in Curitiba, the Instituto de Direito
Publico in Brasilia and numerous Italian universities.
He is the author of two books (Le storie degli altri. Strumenti giuridici del riconoscimento e diritti
civili in Europa e negli Stati Uniti, Napoli, Jovene, 2018; Diritti fondamentali e parametro di
giudizio.
Per una storia concettuale delle relazioni tra ordinamenti, Napoli, Jovene, 2012) and of
articles and essays on the multilevel protection of fundamental rights, the recognition of
homosexual family life and same-sex parenthood, the protection of sexual orientation and gender
identity, conscientious objection, the protection of dignity at the end of life and reproductive rights.
He has edited three collective volumes: Le nuove frontiere del diritto dell'immigrazione:

Further publications concern the legal regulation of migration,
the relationship between freedom and security in the fight against international terrorism,
constitutional history and the history of legal thought (with essays on Aldo Moro's philosophical-
legal thought, Peter Häberle's reflection on the procedural guarantees of fundamental rights and the
influence of feminist thought on legal thought).
He has also dealt with the principle of solidarity in
the process of European integration and the impact of populism on constitutional democracy in
Europe.
